In 1967 the band released plenty of singles with beautiful songs strongly influenced by British Invasion and the beginnings of psychedelic era, which was reflected by fuzzy guitar solos, electric Ionica organ sounds. In 1967 joined the band one of the best drummers in Czechoslovakia – Jaroslav “Erno” Šedivý and Přemysl Černý became a manager of Flamengo. After some changes, the personnel was stabled to – František Francl- lead guitar, Pavel Fořt- bass guitar, Jiří Čížek- Ionica organ, Karel Kahovec- guitar, lead vocals, Petr Novák- vocals, Přemysl Černý- drums. The band was established in 1966 in Prague. From the year 1971 Olympic played mainstream bubble-gum songs or songs tributary to Communist party propaganda. In 1970 began political normalisation and rock’n’roll became nearly illegal. Bewitching mood, surrealistic lyrics, experiments with guitar feedback, dreamy ballads and mind-bending fuzzy guitar solos – that’s the characteristic of Olympic’s album “Pták Rosomák.”Īfter Soviet Invasion in August 1968 the political condition in Czechoslovakia had begun to change. In 1969 the band recorded their second LP record – “Pták Rosomák” (The Wolverine Bird) which was absolutely psychedelic. The most psychedelic song of this album was “Psychiatrický prášek”(The Psychiatric Pill) which lasts over 6 minutes. The album “Želva”contained 12 songs which were strongly influenced by waves of mersey-sound, garage and psychedelic rock, as well. Laboratory experiences may enhance student understanding of specific scientific facts and concepts and of the way in which these facts and concepts are organized in the scientific disciplines.ĭeveloping scientific reasoning. Building on these commonly stated goals, the committee developed a comprehensive list of goals for or desired outcomes of laboratory experiences:Įnhancing mastery of subject matter. While these inventories of goals vary somewhat, a core set remains fairly consistent. The committee commissioned a paper to examine the definition and goals of laboratory experiences (Millar, 2004) and also considered research reviews on laboratory education that have identified and discussed learning goals (Anderson, 1976 Hofstein and Lunetta, 1982 Lazarowitz and Tamir, 1994 Shulman and Tamir, 1973). Laboratories have been purported to promote a number of goals for students, most of which are also the goals of science education in general (Lunetta, 1998 Hofstein and Lunetta, 1982). Next we consider the role of technology in supporting student learning from laboratory experiences. In the following section of this chapter, we present design principles for laboratory experiences derived from our analysis of these multiple strands of research and suggest that laboratory experiences designed according to these principles are most likely to accomplish their learning goals. 1 We propose the phrase “integrated instructional units” to describe these research and design projects that integrate laboratory experiences within a sequence of science instruction. The review of research evidence draws on three major strands of research: (1) cognitive research illuminating how students learn (2) studies that examine laboratory experiences that stand alone, separate from the flow of classroom science instruction and (3) research projects that sequence laboratory experiences with other forms of science instruction. In this chapter, the committee first identifies and clarifies the learning goals of laboratory experiences and then discusses research evidence on attainment of those goals. The research suggests that laboratory experiences will be more likely to achieve these goals if they (1) are designed with clear learning outcomes in mind, (2) are thoughtfully sequenced into the flow of classroom science instruction, (3) integrate learning of science content and process, and (4) incorporate ongoing student reflection and discussion.Ĭomputer-based representations and simulations of natural phenomena and large scientific databases are more likely to be effective if they are integrated into a thoughtful sequence of classroom science instruction that also includes laboratory experiences. The science learning goals of laboratory experiences include enhancing mastery of science subject matter, developing scientific reasoning abilities, increasing understanding of the complexity and ambiguity of empirical work, developing practical skills, increasing understanding of the nature of science, cultivating interest in science and science learning, and improving teamwork abilities. Because the bit rate does not change at all in CBR, less complex parts are inefficiently encoded with higher bitrates. In MP3 CBR encoding, audio is represented in a user-defined bitrate. MP3 compression is available in a variety of different flavors, including CBR (constant bit rate), VBR (variable bit rate), and ABR (average bit rate). It is a lossy format that supports various different bitrate settings. All of these compression levels are lossless, but the higher compression levels use more CPU to encode and slightly more to decode in order to represent the exact same data in less space. FLAC provides compression levels from L0 (little to no compression) to L8 (maximum compression). As it is lossless, there is no loss of audio fidelity during conversion to and from this format, unlike in formats such as Ogg Vorbis and MP3. Note, also, that in the latest version of most known operating systems (Windows, Linux, Macintosh) there are pre-installed applications with which you can open ZIP files (Windows XP and up have WinZip installed, in Linux there is Ark and 7-Zip etc).įLAC stands for Free Lossless Audio Codec.
